2013 FIRS World Inline-Hockey Championships: first day for seniors
The favorites are on stage
Honda Arena is a ice hockey rink. It is used by the NHL team of Anaheim Ducks. This is the most beautiful complexe we have ever seen for an inline hockey world championship since its creation in 1995. Giant screens everywhere, team presentation with video and flag, music and lights, nothing is left to chance. We are far from the host issues of the second field closer to shore!
And even if the tribunes are empty, the head of the players is full of memories and emotion. Especially since this 2013 edition is gathering 21 men's teams and 13 women's teams. Namibia, India, New Zealand, many emerging nations, giving this opening ceremony a taste of Olympic Games.
Results of the day
But from Monday, the sporting dimension has taken the upper hand on the starry spirits. In men's category, the U.S. crushed Colombia 9-0. Same scenario between New-Zealand and Venezuela (11-2), Sweden against China (20-0) and Argentina against india (17-0). In the first pool, Canada beats Latvia in the second period (8-3). The Swiss players manage to escape from a complicated match against Italy 5-4. The Swiss team has character and could be one of the surprises of these Senior World Championships.
Czech Republic dominates France
France remained powerless against the Czech armada. French players bows logically 4-1. France have yet contained adverse assaults in the first period, but remained too timid to face the cage of Czech Republic. The rest of match was played early in the second period, the French goalkeeper Terry Lefranc conceding two more goals. Julien Couraud saves the honor with a powerful shot into the net. The score ends with a 4-1 advantage for 2007 / 2012 World Champions.
We take the same...
In the women's category, as in the previous week with the juniors, USA and Canada seem untouchable. Barring surprises, these two nations should compete in the final. However, the last place on the podium remains open. In the absence of Spain (third last year) and France, Mexico and Argentina are close behind. Mexican women beat Great Britain 2-1 while Germany bowed 4-0 against Argentina.
Program on Tuesday
France will face Canada. This is a crucial match for the rest of the competition. Another highlight is the clash between the USA and Switzerland. In the women's category, the match between Argentina and Mexico should also be interesting.
