24 top teams and numerous single starters will compete for titles and points. The elite field for this year’s GERMAN INLINE CUP is set. Last Friday the period for the season registration of all six races ended. 23 top teams as well as 54 single starters from all over Europe entered in total and again confirm the series’ importance for the inline skating sport.
The participant field is getting more and more international: Besides German speed skaters a lot of athletes come from Belgium, Colombia, the Czech Republic, France, Italy, New Zealand, Switzerland and Ukraine. Last year’s winners of the GIC overall ranking in the "speed" (Sabine Berg and Felix Rijhnen, both Powerslide Matter World Team) and "fitness" categories (Jens Kaiser, Köln Marathon-Team) will again be present to defend their titles in 2012.
Further, world elite skaters Cecilia Baena Guyader and her husband Yann Guyader (both EOSkates) as well as the strong skaters from the Swiss Skate Team are seen as top-class rivals for the overall ranking.
Seven women teams will compete for the overall ranking:
In the male scoring 16 teams will start:
Moreover, numerous fitness and recreational skaters that individually register for the single GIC races will also get points in the finish for the overall ranking. Thus, they also may be placed at leading positions at the end of the season.
