The German Powerslide Matter Team seized the two first places of the ranking at the 4th stage of the 2016 World Inline Cup in Ostrava, Czech Republic. On June 18th, German Felix Rijhnen and New Zealander Peter Michael joined forces to get the victory in the streets of the Czech city. The elite skaters raced for 33.5 km under warm and mild weather conditions.
After 6 laps out of the 11 on the program, i.e. 19 km, Felix Rijhnen (GER) and Peter Michael (NZL) managed to break away. They crossed the finish line together. Felix Rijhnen is now the leader of the general ranking of the Word Cup of Skating Marathons, the World Inline Cup. Elton de Souza got the bronze for X-Tech.
"I'm extremely happy, I've finally managed to win a stage of the World Inline Cup, it's the first time! This street course is very demanding and fast, the surface is excellent. We'll come back next year.
There were also leisure competitions all through the day for less trained skaters, and kid races. In total, over 1500 skaters took part in the event."
Two skaters managed to break away halfway through the race and the final decision was played at the sprint in the last 100 meters. Katharina Rumpus (Powerslide Matter, GER) won in front of local Katerina Novotná (CZE).
The 3rd place went to New Zealander Nicole Begg, who hadn't lined up on a European race for a while.
"The weather and the course were perfect today. I had two objectives: winning the Ostrava race and keeping my place of leader of the World Inline Cup this year again. Mission accomplished. I'm fully satisfied!"
After the marathons of Incheon (South Korea), Rennes and Dijon (France), Ostrava (Czech Republic), the ultimate race of the 2016 WIC will be the 2016 Roller Marathon of Berlin (Germany) on September 24th!
